Your in the middle of finishing a very important report for a business meeting in a couple of hours. Your printer runs out of ink and you have no spare. What's worse - your not sure what kind of replacement ink cartridge it needs. To avoid that kind of scenario from happening, a little pre-planning in knowing your ink cartridge number, or your printer model will help. Here are some tips we can suggest. Every printer ink cartridge or toner cartridge is identified by a number somewhere. Common locations where you can find the number of the right ink or toner for your printer are:
1) Inside your printer when you open the door on the front or top: Most ink cartridges and toners have a number written clearly on the side. Sometimes cartridges will have suffixes (letters or words that come after the cartridge number). These suffixes indicate compatibility. 2) Online: Using a search engine like Google will make it easy to identify the proper ink cartridge replacement or toner replacement number. Find the model number of your printer. It's usually on the front or bottom. Then "Google" the model number and you should come up with a number of pages you can us to find the replacement number. A nice search tool from biggestbook allows you to enter your printer model number in a search box and get a list of cartridges or toners for that printer model. Just enter your printer model number in the Rapid Find search box by the red arrow. See the image below.
3) Your original printer box, if you kept it: Look on the outside of your printer box for recommended ink cartridges and toner replacement numbers. Some printers ship with credit card sized cards inside your printer box that will list your printer model and recommended replacement inks. Keep this card handy in your business card box for when you go shopping. Or put it in your wallet. 4) Your printer manual: Look inside your printer manual for suggested ink cartridge replacements and toner replacements. Keep your manual handy with your other office equipment docs so you can find it in hurry. Once you know the replacement ink number, transfer the number to your address book or phone book. Or create an Excel spreadsheet on your computer that lists important office supplies. 5) Ink cartridge boxes or toner boxes: Of course if you purchased a replacement before, the number would be on the box. However, recyling of "dead" inkjet ink cartridges or laser toner cartridge replacements is vital to maintaining a green environment. The best practice is to keep your original box. When you purchase your first replacement, install the new full cartridge in your printer and then place the spent cartridge in the box. Store the spent cartridge in your office closet until next time you order. If you shop at a physical storefront, take the box with you for recycling. If you shop online, take the spent cartridge or spent toner to a post office or other place that accepts old cartridges/toners for recyling. When Mid City delivers your new cartridge, give the delivery person your empty cartridge for recycling. No hassle!
